About RAFMAA's Slope Soaring Events

Our slope soaring events are very inclusive and all experience levels and disciplines are welcome to attend. Whether you fly a Zagi, a foamie motor glider or even a V-tail all-carbon racer you can join in the action. We will be running a series of competitions as part of our annual slope championships at this event and everyone is welcome to join in and get involved. If competing isn’t your thing though dont worry, you are still equally welcome to come and just fly for fun!

Tickets for the event are free of charge to RAFMAA members but should be reserved by clicking the RSVP link below so that we have an idea of numbers and no-one is left behind.

Cold and wet weather gear is a must along with a decent pair of walking boots for those inevitable retrieval moments!

Leek & Moorland Flying Sites

Our friends at the Leek & Moorland Model Gliding Association (LMMGA) have once again graciously agreed to be our hosts for the weekend at their fantastic series of flying sites in the Staffordshire/Derbyshire area between Leek, Macclesfield and Buxton.

Specific flying sites for the event will depend on the weather conditions and will be determined on the day.

Accommodation Options

Accommodation is available at extra cost and must be booked separately.

CAMPING/MOTORHOMES;  A number of members have approached us about camping accommodation. After research, our recommendation is Staden Grange HERE, which members have used for this event before.

HOTEL; To ensure everyone is local enough to make rendezvousing for evening socials easier, our reccomended hotel is the Premier Inn, Buxton HERE. If this venue is fully booked there is also a Premier Inn located in Leek HERE

Duty Status

This event holds duty status for Servicemen, meaning that leave should not be submitted for the Friday of the event. HOWEVER in order to qualify for this status, Serving members are required to take part in at least one flying competition.

Further information

An admin order for this event is available on request. An email will be sent out to attendees shortly before the event with details of the likely first flying site/meeting points/timings. During the event keep an eye on our Facebook group for further updates.
